Lyudmila Suprun – the acting leader of the People’s Democratic Party

4.4.2006    08:47

A meeting of the Political executive committee of People’s Democratic Party took place on April 3. The meeting reviewed preliminary results of the elections, held on March 26, a set of tasks, the party is to fulfill, and some organizational, cadre and other matters. In the report, given by the head of the election campaign, Lyudmila Suprun, was mentioned that the results of the elections-2006 were a complete failure for the people’s democrats, if compared to all previous election results – the party will not be represented neither in the Parliament nor on the local level. The only achievements are the passing of the Kunitsin bloc to the Crimean Parliament, the victories of the town, village and settlement heads in several regions and People’s Democratic Party represented on the regional level in town, village and settlement councils. The highest representative rate the party has in Vinnitchina – in 16 regions, in Crimea – 14, and in Zhitomirshina – 10. Lyudmila Pavlivna has heartily congratulated the chosen deputies of all levels on this occasion.

At the same time most attention of the leader of the People’s Democratic Party was paid to the analysis of the reasons of the failure at the elections. Among such reasons she mentioned the late start of the election campaign, difficulties in forming the election coalition and non-compliance of some party members with their responsibilities. But the main reason still lies in the incapability of the bloc’s prospects, it wanted to realize, to appeal to the Ukrainian electorate, meaning that the bloc failed to become a force that reflects the tendencies of the Ukrainians.

“People were not motivated to vote for us – said Lyudmila Suprun – Our party did not appeal to neither youth nor the middle class or and pensioners. We should recognize this fact and make the corresponding conclusions for the future.”

Lyudmila Suprun stressed that the People’s Democratic Party and a number of other parties struggle with the falsifications during the elections. The reason for this struggle is not self-interest, but longing for honest elections results, whatever they may turn out to be. “It is necessary for the justice, which is worth being fought for, and for the democracy consolidation in Ukraine” – mentioned Suprun. She also suggested creating a working team that will work out a new program of the party as a contemporary European one. Among the major tasks for the near future, three were stated. Organizational issues, concerning the strengthening of all supervisory units and of regional offices of the party. Ideological ones, that will let the party fin its electorate and make the future development course of the party, and finally the political issues: where the party will belong to – to the opposition or to the side of the government etc. According to the decision of the Political executive committee of People’s Democratic Party, there was a working group created that would work out a new program for the party as well as the reorganizations conceptions for the period of 2006-2011. the working group was headed by Lyudmila Suprun. The deputy chairmen, some members of the committee and the heads of a number of regional offices were included to the working group.

The Political executive committee recommended Volodymir Krutko, the leader of the Peoples democratic youth league, to the post of the vice-president of the party, and Serhij Kostrikov, the head of the PDP office in Kyiv, to the post of a Political committee member. The committee also decided to exclude several politicians, who left the party due to various reasons, from the committee. During the discuddion of the question “Concerning the announcement of the head of PDP, V. Pustovoytenko”, everyone listened attentively to the message of the announcement and to the speech of Valeriy Pavlovich. He concentrated in his speech on his decision to leave the post of the head of the party, whatever the results of the elections turn out to be, though he stressed that he would not leave the party, and would do his best to modernize, renew and improve the People’s Democratic Party. He called to protect people – the backbone of the party, and to recruit youth to the governing bodies. ”Do not lose youth – save the future of PDP” – stressed Valeriy Pustovoytenko. The members of the Political executive committee understood the decision. Lyudmila Suprun will be the acting leader of the People’s Democratic Party starting with April 5. Valeriy Pavlovich was the first to congratulate her and presented a big bunch of flowers to her. The members of the Political executive committee also congratulated Lyudmila Suprun and wished her good luck in her work, strong health and happiness.
