It was
founded in the February of 1969 as a Ukrainian
non-governmental public
organization. It has offices in all the regions of Ukraine,
in Kyiv and Sebastopol as well.
Existing at
the expense of charitable contributions, the Fund unites the efforts of
the
society to establish peace and concession in Ukraine and beyond its
borders,
promotes the rebirth of the nation, and the development of
international cooperation
for the sake of peace, helps to provide the unprotected layers of the
society
with doles.
The
Ukrainian peace fund is one of the founders of the international
association of
peace funds, which has the highest advisory rank in the UNO. This gives
wider
opportunities for peaceful actions, for the development of cooperation
with
various national and international organizations and movements in the
realization of their programs.
For
the
period of its activity in Ukraine the fund has become the initiator of
creation
of public assistance centers for the poorest citizens and for the aged,
financed the workers of the social service and visiting nurses, started
the
Memory book, annual “To the memory duties – to the peace duties”,
devoted to
the Victory day. The fund has financially aided the construction of
charity
houses in Kyiv and Odessa, the Fund
helped to
equip regional children hospitals and diagnostic centers in Donetsk and
Zhytomir, constructed and equipped several
hospitals
and children institutions etc.
In
December
of 2002 the MP Lyudmila Suprun became the president of the
Ukrainian peace
fund. Among the elected to the directors’ board are MPs, famous science
workers, public organization representatives, representatives of the
creative intelligentsia.
The new fund’s government has improved its work greatly for the short
period of
time. The action “Renew the sanctuaries of Ukraine”
was founded – it gathered more than 8 million US dollars of
donation for the
reconstruction of the famous historical monument of Ukraine – Transfiguration
Cathedral in
Chernihivsky region. Owing to the Ukrainian action “Save the child’s
life” held
in 2003, more than 1 million US dollars were given to the “Ohmatdit”
hospital
(Motherhood and childhood security hospital), which was spent on the
equipment
of the hospital and on the help to the sick in cancer. The primary
attention of
the organization is drawn to the new generation rearing, to the
guardianship of
orphans, of street children, and to the guardianship of the boarding
schools.
The boarding schools’ guardianship program is presently being worked
out
together with the government of Italy.
More and more aid is coming from abroad. In this sphere the Fund
develops
closer ties with the partner organizations from the USA,
Italy, Sweden, Canada,
Germany.
The Ukrainian peace fund was aided with 100 “Volvo” buses, which now
service
the students and schoolchildren in villages. The aid is divided between
the retirement
homes and boarding schools.
More
than
10 years the Fund has fruitfully cooperated with the United methodologist Church
in Pennsylvania
(USA). The America
n colleagues help the institutions for the sick children, orphan
houses,
medical institutions, poor families.
The
traditional programs of the Ukrainian peace fund, such as “Treatment”,
“Public
democracy”, “Peace to your home” are realized more effectively. In
particular,
the Fund helps talented children to take part in the international
festivals
and competitions.
The
project
of creation of anti-crisis center for homeless children, which are more
than
200 thousand in Ukraine,
is currently being worked over. The Fund also aids the unprotected
layers of
the society, buys food and clothes, including the New Year presents for
children.
